On 6 June 1944 Commando Kieffer 177 soldiers disembarked, but they were not the only French soldiers involved in Operation Overlord. French sailors were on also board the vessels of the FNFL, and in the air, around 100 French pilots were also present. This book depicts these men and their squadrons, but also the Norman airfields against which they were deployed. This album is illustrated with numerous photographs but also with superb colour illustrations of the aircraft. The author, Français Robinard, recently published an important book with Editions Heimdal entitled 50 Aérodromes pour une Victoire. The illustrations of aircraft are by Jacques Clementine.

Luftwaffe versus USAAF 8th Air Force Vol. I – Another remarkable book in Air Battles series gives its readers exceptional chance to follow the history of relentless combat fought between Luftwaffe and USAF in the skies over Europe. The story begins with the first Flying Fortresses air raid against targets in France on August 17, 1942 and continues till the last day of April 1943. Precise air clashes descriptions complemented by pilots’ personal stories are one of the unique features of this book which also includes 109 archival photos and 8 colour profiles of described aircrafts.

The Corsair no doubt appears at the top of the list of mythical aircraft which have left their mark on aviation history. The Mirage 2000N program was launched in 1978 to accomplish intercept missions and medium-range air to surface nuclear attacks in order to eventually replace the Mirage IVP which was terminated in 1990. Based off of the Mirage 2000B, it is equipped with a weapons system organised around an Antilope radar system, enabling automatic navigation and field monitoring, all while maintaining its in-flight auto-defense capabilities. While the first models were only capable of carrying nuclear missiles, beginning with the 2000N-K2, the aircraft is now able to undertake conventional ground attack missions, with a large array of traditional bombs. Derived from the Breguet 690 which was built at the beginning of 1936, the Breguet 693 had its baptism by fire in May 1940: eleven aircraft of the GBA 1/54 were engaged in the region of Maastricht against the Germans. Unfortunately the ground assault tactic utilised proved to be disastrous, rendering the aircraft particularly vulnerable and ten among them, decimated by the flak, never returned. The Breguet 693, a two-seat twin-engine bomber carrying a pilot and a machine gun back-to-back, was also one of the first French aircraft to be equipped with radio communication. Like many units however, the assault groups were eventually pulled out of North Africa, and due the German occupation, this particular model saw no other future developments.French Language

Renowned for decades as the world’s foremost railroad artist, Howard Fogg’s career spanned half a century and some twelve hundred paintings. However, while his art has been welcomed for decades, few of his enthusiasts have been aware of his prior career, as a fighter pilot in the U.S. 8th Air Force during World War II. Fortunately Fogg left behind a detailed diary of his experiences, which illuminate this brief but exciting aspect of his life, as he engaged in direct combat with the Luftwaffe at the controls of a P-47 Thunderbolt.Articulate and insightful, his diary offers a frank and fascinating glimpse into the life of a fighter pilot, both in the sky and in wartime England. Billy Bishop was the top Canadian flying ace in the first World War, credited officially with a record breaking 75 victories. A highly skilled pilot and an accurate shot, he was fiercely ambitious, driven by an undisguised hatred of his enemies. He played hard and fought even harder. A highly skilled pilot and a crack shot, "top gun" of the Allied air forces, by 1918 Bishop was the most highly decorated war hero in Canadian history. He also remains the most controversial. Some of Bishop's fellow pilots were repelled by his grandstanding and suspected he was deliberately inflating his number of "kills." Since then, the claim has been repeated by many others. Bishop went from being the most decorated war hero in Canadian history to a crusader for peace, writing the book Winged Peace, which supported international control of global air power.
