Although it’s cold and gloomy outside, it is perfect weather to curl up with a good book. Here are the books that we are excited about coming up in the next few months…

January: Aachen

The first city on German soil to fall to the Allies in World War II, marking the beginning of the end.

This book tells the dramatic story of the battle of six weeks of hard combat to reach this historic moment.

A must have for any World War II enthusiast.

 

February: Hold At All Costs!

Valentine’s Day once again descends upon us. To escape from it all, we recommend Hold at all Costs!,  a riveting account of the battle of Delville Wood in 1916.

In the Battle of Delville Wood, under shelling taking place at 400 shells a minute, South African troops repulsed forces five times their number. The story is told through interviews with South African veterans, bringing a battle fought 99 years ago to life.

March: War’s Nomads and Gold Run

A really exciting month here for Casemate UK, as we launch the first of our published titles!

Imagine operating as part of a tiny radar unit formed of no more than ten men, in Africa in World War Two, enduring months on end of almost total isolation. This is the story told by Frederick Grice in his journal, discovered twenty years after his death by his daughter and son-in-law. Not just an illuminating book on the Western Desert Campaign of World War II, but a very human story from a gifted writer.
